Thank you. Duchamp was actually a very famous painter before "Fountain," 1917. After that piece he stop painting completely and only made conceptual works.
The belief, however, that art is only pure in concept suggest that painting, drawing, and sculpture is an "art" but not art itself. The "Fountain," 1917 may have broken through many boundries in art, but in a way it was also "pissing" on traditional media.
